Holy Childhood of Jesus of Harbor Springs is looking for an energetic, friendly, dependable individual to join our team as our Maintenance Coordinator for the parish. In this role, you'll work closely with the Pastor, Business Manager, parish staff and parishioners to keep our community safe and thriving with clean, safe, and well-maintained parish buildings and grounds. You'll be the go-to person for general maintenance/repairs of the church, parish center, and rectory, including electrical, plumbing, boilers/HVAC, green space, parking lots, and buildings, working in collaboration with the Building and Grounds Committee and subcontractors.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Serves the parish as lead person responsible for all maintenance of parish buildings and grounds. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance and custodial services, safety hazard checks, perform and schedule needed repairs/service, and serve the Building and Grounds Committee. On call for weekend parish needs, such as seasonal snow removal in entries and special events set up.

Regular hours during the week, Monday through Friday, depending on the needs of the parish. Some weekend hours may be required.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Performs a variety of facility and equipment maintenance duties. May perform various routine maintenance and repairs including routine carpentry and plumbing duties based on skill level and experience.
- Prioritizes and completes maintenance requests in a timely manner. Make minor repairs as requested, change light bulbs, and maintain inventory of supplies, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and other supplies. Submit purchase requests to business manager as needed.
- Helps with a variety of installation, repairs, and renovations to buildings including but not limited to electrical fixtures and switches, and semi-skilled tasks in construction, repair, and maintenance of structures including drywall and painting work.
- Installation, repair, and renovation of some equipment including electrical appliances, valves, hot water heaters, sinks, commodes, hand basins, kitchen appliances, and heating and cooling systems.
- Operates a variety of gas-powered trucks and equipment; performs maintenance on equipment. Is responsible for all the equipment, vehicles, and tools used, including moving and transporting furniture, fixtures and equipment.
- Assist as requested with preparations for events, such as parish hall set up.
- Custodial support for all buildings, cleaning, vacuuming, dusting. Ensure that all waste baskets and recycling in church and rectory are emptied into waste bins and put out for pick up. Review sanctuary to ensure neatness, such as pew hymnals, maintain visitor envelopes and pens.
- Lawn and landscape duties, in conjunction with contracted services. In winter, remove snow from entries and spread salt. Maintain snow removal log and salt supply at each entrance. Maintain water softener salt inventory and replenish as needed.
- Manage seasonal equipment needs, such as humidifiers in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Adjust clocks and battery powered emergency lights and change HVAC filters twice a year.
- Maintain logs on boilers, inspections, fire equipment. Conduct routine water testing quarterly and as required (March 30, June 30, September 30 and December 30).
- Check baptismal font weekly and drain, wipe, rinse, drain and refill regularly every week when baptisms occur, or every two weeks if no baptisms occur.
- Contact, schedule and supervise parish disciples for special projects, such as pew vacuuming and polishing.
- Other duties as assigned by the Pastor or his designee.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Must be able to move and load equipment and supplies that weigh 50 pounds or more, and perform other physical duties required to perform the attributes of the job.
- Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.
- Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, reach, and climb ladders.
- Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills to work with and through others.
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to apply common sense when carrying out instructions furnished in written or oral form, anticipating next step of the process or project.
- Ability to positively and efficiently change priorities, as needed, and complete tasks within reasonable timeframes.
- Able to multi-task efficiently and accurately.
- Consistently maintain acceptable performance standards.
- Must be adept at meeting deadlines, handling multiple projects and shifting priorities.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Drive as necessary on errands as required by parish.
