First Reconciliation
Just six short days after Divine Mercy Sunday, our Faith Formation 2nd grade students made their First Reconciliation. They were accompanied by their parents and siblings and teachers. Also participating were the 3rd grade Faith Formation students who are preparing to receive Confirmation and First Holy Communion on May 20 at 11:00 AM. They were accompanied by parents and siblings as well. The service begin with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a reading from the Gospel St. Luke of The Prodigal Son, and a homily by Fr. James. While the students were beginning to go to Confession, the teachers read the Examination of Conscience, a Bible reading and a short reflection. Fr. James and Fr. Greg (St. Francis) heard confessions. Afterward there was a gathering in the Narthex for students, siblings and parents—a lovely group of over 50 people. Such an immense blessing for all! Many thanks to Fr. James and Fr. Greg for all your help. Our children understand that Confession is an encounter with Jesus where we are healed from our sins, receive sanctifying grace and are strengthened for the journey of life in order to stay on the path to heaven. Parents understand that this sacrament reveals the true mercy of God and helps children experience that love and mercy to know, love and serve God more and more throughout their lives. They know to come to God in confession when they have sinned. Acting in faith, they will encounter Our Lord in this beautiful sacrament and be forgiven.
